Gross

Today on the subway, I saw the oddest thing. Well, odd doesn't describe it. Apparently, there's a baseball game tonight at Shea Stadium. Because of this, there were quite a few people on the 7 tonight. One group I noticed in particular. There was a girl, I'd say about 20 years old, maybe Laotian or Cambodian. She was sitting around two older caucasian men, and by older, I mean about 45 to 50 years old. Fine, usually that's nothing. What I couldn't fathom, was that one of those old men had his arms around her shoulders and his hand was molesting her arm. That gave me chills. Were they related somehow? Was he a particularly close friend? Was she a hooker? Did she simply not mind some man old enough to be her father have his arm so...intimately slung around her? And then she put her arm on his thigh, his inner thigh. At which point I threw up a little in my mouth. Thank god they got off at Shea Stadium...
In other news, I made a friend today. Sadly, I can't remember his name. I think it's John. I'm pretty positive it's John. John just recently graduated from Kansas State with a master's degree in landscape design. He's currently working in the same office as me, though not in the same company. He's also currently working as a National Guard whatchamacallit. He's a very nice, tall fellow who I thought was bald, until I noticed that it's just that his hair is so blond, it's white. Nice person, but still, I'm hoping I can make some friends more my age, and preferably female. I still haven't had a chance to go visit the neighboring design office, must get to that sometime.
O yes, and for once, the guy at the receptionist desk said good morning to me. Amazing, I do exist.

Roommate Search

I really hate bureaucracies - that's basically what CMU is. Right now, I feel particularly helpless against them and just plain sullen. Not even angry, no rage, I am just sullen, like a little kid who got sent to time out.
Of course, in my case, time out's going to last for an entire year in a crappy little room on a crappy little campus called Carnegie Mellon. All this is due to the fact that I'm bound by contract to pay $6000 for the place that I don't want to live in next year, and that appealing it would be $10,000 at the least. Not really worth it, no? Well all I can do now is sulk, hope I get a good room, find Adria Greene's car and smear dog poo under the door handles.
I also have to find a new roommate for the roommate I was going to live with in the glorious apartment I looked forward to living in. My roommate is proving to be most odd about it, telling me I ought to be the one who picks who lives with her. It doesn't really make sense to me, since she's the one who's going to have to put up with whoever I drop in on her. What happens if I picked some transgender named Sheila who liked to bring her multiple lovers home on weeknights? I doubt my roommate would approve. Call me crazy, but that's my reasoning.
I hate this whole situation, it's like blackmail, except it's my own stupidity that's blackmailing me. I hope Adria gets fired. I also hope the office that she's in catches fire and burns down with her in it, since, of course, burning to death is what I imagine to be the worst possible way to go. Obviously I'm not about to commit homicide or arson. Still, I can daydream.
I think the only way I can get a little revenge is to become a rich and famous architect, and not donate a single penny to anything other than my very own school of architecture. When I'm an older, more experienced and overall socially smarter person, I'll give them some sort of all encompassing explanation as to why, and hopefully it won't be a bureaucracy anymore...yah..right...like that will ever happen...

Working Woman

Yes, ladies and gents, I am now a working woman! Today was my first day working for BottinoGrund Architects and I'm having fun. I get my own nice little corner, complete reign over the printers and scanner and fax machine and a logitech wireless mouse! My bosses are really funny and I get to wear jeans and sneakers to work if I want. Today, they even bought me lunch (wow).
It felt very strange today going into Manhattan all on my lonesome. I'm usually following someone around, or with a group of people, but for the first time, I was in the big city all on my lonesome. Sure I was in Pittsburgh for two years all on my lonesome, but Pittsburgh is really nothing compared to NY. NY is...cold in comparison. No one smiles, no one watches out for each other. I think if someone were to faint in the subway, the only people that would bend over to check are the ones checking your wallet for money. The commuting is...hostile.
On a lighter, happier note, I got hired by HolzmanMoss as well. Three for me, mwahaha. I left them a message that I already got a job, but that feels sort of like a jerk thing to do, so I'm going to call them again tomorrow and apologize. I'm really bad at telling people no. I almost had a moment of hope when Nestor (my boss) said that he should give HolzmanMoss a call and say haha, too late, but then, he was just joking. Ah well, guess I'll have to do it myself...

Withdrawal

Suffering internet withdrawal. No internet at home either due to something being wrong with the outside wires. No repairs till Sunday. Since we have cable internet, that means no t.v. either.
Only have sporadic bits of internet usage like now.
Need 24-7 internet....
Hands Shaking....

Unhappy

These past few days have me flipping out. First there was the frantic packing of the boxes. And there was big camping night, where my parents stayed over in my eeny weeny apartment. And then we all drove home and the whole time, mom kept mentioning how she and dad didn't like how I was dating a white guy. Yes, my parents are racists. I thought they weren't, but apparently they are. And it's getting on my nerves how mom keeps mentioning it over and over how much dad doesn't like me dating Ben when it's very clear to me that while dad is unhappy, it's mostly mom who is very very upset with it. So what? He's American. So am I. Deal.
Also annoying me is my parents' usual behavior of letting me know at the very last minute that we're going to New York the very next day and somehow expecting me to magically know this even though I've been away at school all this time. And now, I'm stuck here in New York City with no instant messenger or means to call my Benny-bean who I miss incredibly and really want to talk to. All I've got is email and NYTimes on my uncle's borrowed laptop with stolen insecure DSL connection. I'm going to be in the city until around Wednesday afternoon because of my interviews and then I'll be back in Connecticut and hopefully my parents won't mind me calling him. Long distance sucks.
I need a big hug from my Ben...

Housing

I'm in a terrible mood. I hate housing. Hate. In first year, my room was so cold in the middle of winter that I could see my breath. When I called housing to fix the heater, they told us they couldn't fix it until summer.
This year, my room flooded with raw sewage. Some of my belongings were damaged. They wouldn't pay a penny.
So, now that I know that Carnegie Mellon University Housing Services doesn't take care of its own students, I'm moving off campus.
Except I can't.
On the last day for housing cancellation, I emailed the director to let her know that I would no longer be living on campus. This was after her office hours, but far before the deadline, well, three hours before. However, on Monday, I got a reply that said that no, I was in fact, not allowed to leave, that I will have to pay all $6000 to live with girls I don't want to live with, for a space that I will not be taking up, even when the freshmen haven't been placed yet, and the school has a housing shortage crisis. And everytime I try to call the lovely, Ms. Adria Greene, she isn't there, and instead, she calls back when I'm not around, just to reinform me of the fact that I'm not allowed to cancel. I don't usually swear on my blog, but I just have to say, that is the stupidest, goddamn bitch ever, and I want to get her fired.

Hell

It's 8 am. I didn't sleep all night. My hands are cracked and bleeding from repeated washings of my paintbrushes in ice cold water. It's snowing outside...on April 24th. Why is it snowing outside at the end of April? I'm hungry, but I don't have much left that's good to eat, and there are no food places open this early on Sunday. I think I'm in hell. A cold, wet hell, the ninth level right with Satan, where the sun never shines and the winds never cease to whip and flail all life out of my skin. I need a hug. Where's my Benny-bean to give me a hug?

Le Cirque

First of all, I apologize to all the people I was supposed to call today. The creation of my portfolio for my job interview tomorrow took much much longer than anticipated and I finished around 1 am, standing with a good friend, Galen, in the Kinko's copy shop in downtown Pittsburgh. By then I was starving and since he and his friends were going out anyway, and it's been such a long time since I hung out with them, I went with them to the Eat n' Park.
Upon entering, several very exotic looking fellows, one of which had Cirque du Soleil emblazoned on his back, stood in front of us waiting to be seated. I, being the clairvoyant that I am, guessed that they were somehow involved with Cirque du Soleil, as Varekai is currently in town. (I wanna see! I wanna see!) After sitting at our booth and deliberating with the guys, we decided to have Galen go and ask them if they were part of the Cirque troupe. Galen, feeling embarrassed, chose to drag me along, as I started the whole thing. I hid behind him as he asked about the lovely jacket (which I want) and were rewarded with smiles, handshakes and introductions. (In case you hadn't figured out, they were, in fact, part of le Cirque). I was referred to as "precious" and Galen had "sparkling eyes." Then we went back to our booth where I basked happily in the glow that is Cirque and then a cake suddenly appeared on our table - from the fellows in that booth over there, said the waitress. Mr. Twinkles Galen seemed to have earned us a lovely cake, or maybe I helped, who knows. It was yummy and fattening. Le Cirque bought us cake!
Ok, now I have to sleep so I can wake up in time for my flight.
O yes and when you have no cream, try putting some of your friend's milkshake in your tea. I find it very rich and yummy.

Stilettos and Si Senor

It's been a long time since I've written. The reason is because I've been quite busy with Spirit Fashion Show. Bascally everyday was devoted to being at rehearsal or something or other. Last night was the show. Thank god its over. Between the fact that my scene never had a scheduled practice time, and the fact that when we ran it at comprehensives we always gt criticized for sloppiness, I was getting pretty darned upset. Especially since that was my one and onl scene. That changed though. A week before the show, I was added on to be a Skittle Girl - basically I was supposed to wear a 70s yellow concierge outfit and walk around the auditorium with a tray filled with champagne flutes filled with skittles. What ended up happening with that was that the designers were so behind on their sewing that my outfit was litterally tacked together at the last minute Literally 20 minutes before the doors opened. Then there was the problem of the fact that out of the ten skittle girls, only I seemed to know how to balance a tray. So they couldn't walk around like they were supposed to. I didn't really want to walk, my feet were killing me. I have blisters on my ankles now, painful reminders of that particular ordeal. So I did that, and then the show started, and then we did our dance. Went well, that. And then I basically sat around for a long time, not expecting to do anything else till the model call when one of the coordinators dragged me to a room filled with clothes and told me to pick some stuff out. A literal last minute scene was added for a designer who came all the way down from NY, so I got to walk in my stilettos. That was pretty darn awesome. Basically, getting to the show was hell. The actual show was awesome.
One problem. I made the mistake of eating at the campus eatery - Si Senor. So I was hungry. So sue me. I now have food poisoning. I haven't been able to really eat much all today and I couldn't figure out why I felt so terrible and all of a sudden, I realized why I felt like throwing up (if you know what I mean).
Jolly, no?

I Hate Trees

Well, not trees. Just tree pollen. The past couple of days have been like living in a hell where everything and everyone around me is sunny and happy. Things that aggravate my life right now - Tree pollen is making my throat swell up and my nose run, teachers in studio raising hell about not being in studio (I'd go, but the windows are open so it's just like being outside, and my throat starts swelling after 2 minutes outside...), o and my debit card has mysteriously been "deactivated." I'm hoping it's that stupid woman at Macy's fault and that it can be resolved. For now I'll be living off of the cash I got for Chinese New Years...

Life Update

Sorry it's been awhile. Life's been hectic lately, so I haven't been feeling up to typing till just about now.
First thing's first, as of exactly one week ago, I turned 20. Yay! Bunny-bean and I and his gramma all have birthdays one after another, so his parents threw us all a little joint birthday party complete with the humongous birthday cake. Very huge. So huge that today, I'm still working on the quarter of the cake Ben's mom gave me.
Reason for being tired, other than the massive amounts of homework I've been getting in all of my classes, is that I have one dance to choreograph because the real choreographer is a lazy bum who won't do anything and expects everything, and then I have two Dancer Symposium dances to learn, and my dance for dance class. I can't wait for Dancer's Symposium. Abby's dance is awesome. I'm definitely buying a DVD.
And this weekend was just about the worst weekend ever concerning plastic. Benny-bean took me to the mall so I could buy toe socks for the dance. All goes well until for some reason, my debit card no longer works. The lady at the counter stares at me and Ben like we're con artist criminals caught in the act and I just stand there feeling like I'm about to cry. I called the bank and got their answering machine, since it was Saturday. I used my debit card's number to check my account and it still exists. We came to the conclusion that that stupid dunce of a woman dragged my card across the counter and the demagnitizer they use on the jeans decided to wipe my card. Stupid woman. So tomorrow I'll be going to the bank to see about getting a replacement. Meanwhile, I fortunately have my Chinese New Year's money on hand so I know that if I'm very careful, I could very well live out the rest of the year without accessing my account. Incidentally, my classmate John had an even worse week. In one day, both his ID card and bank card got wiped so he has no money at all and his bike got stolen. Sucks, don't it?
Oh yes and today, I actually forgot my ID card in my apartment so I had to call campus police to let me back in. When they arrived, they said, "First you need to show us your ID." "Well, ma'am, the reason I can't get into my room is because I don't have my ID." "Good point, well then, find it quick." So I went right over to my desk where it was lying in plain sight, picked it up, showed it, and then the officer left.
O and on Saturday, I learned how to play guitar. Ben's dad bought himself an electric guitar and a little book that taught all the notes and a couple chords in the first position. I showed him wrist placement and how to count time and then he let me play with his new toys. I ended up playing through every song in the entire book which took about an hour. I heard Ben's mom saying to Ben, "I think you lost your girlfriend to a guitar there, Ben." Teehee...

All the Universe in a Shot Glass

Last night, I spent four hours building a model for today. I thought it looked good, but our fearless leader decided that he liked the old one. O well, back to the drawing board. Fortunately, the old one is easier to make. It was fun to build the model at least, since this time, Benny-bean was there to keep me company. We talked about strange abstract things like my idea that the world might just be a mutated electron that belongs to part of an atom, and that atom is part of a drop of water we call the galaxy, and what we believe is the extent of the universe is nothing but a sip of water in a shot glass in a world just like ours, but scaled at some exponential level that we wouldn't know we were looking at a speck of dust if we were sitting right on it. Crazy idea, isn't it? Yes, I am insane.
On another note, I cut friend Wazzy's hair yesterday, though I was quite nervous since I've only ever cut my own hair. It came out really well, though, and when I saw it today it looked pretty good. One of my other classmates even hinted at me that her hair needed some trimming as well. I guess another new title of mine is "class hair stylist?"

Rest

I'm at home right now, resting I suppose. Except I have a ton of homework left to do. And I still have to visit the high school.
I went to New York yesterday and today and as usual, I came home feeling fashionably inadequate - as in, I don't have a fashion forward trendiness about me. And what's more, nothing I saw in NY I liked. It was all the same thing, over and over. Why buy it at Diesel for $70 when I can buy a regular t-shirt for a couple dollars at a second hand store for $2 and tear it up myself? The idea of frankensteining clothing has become increasingly appealing to me (mostly because of Project: Runway and the 2055 collection) and I really really need to learn how to sew. I also really, really need to get into the school of drama's costume design class. Alas, I'll just have to dream for now. I'll look into it when class registration time rolls around. Most likely they'll never let me in, because I'm not a drama major.
Anyhow, I went to NY and came back with only a $13 pair of shoes to show for it. Nothing else looked good or amazing enough for me to buy it. Granted Zara had some really nice business suits, but I'm not an intern. When I am, I'll be buying my stuff there. And Banana Republic. And my shoes shall be 9 West and Aldo. And my purse shall be Gucci and empty.
For now, I'll settle for my $35 Victoria Secret Dress. I love it. Benny-bean shall love me in it. Hopefully, it won't make me look short...

Leaving

In half an hour, I will be on a bus to the airport, where I will get on an airplane to go home. It shall be good. I will see my friends and the teachers.
A little while ago, Ben stopped by to see me for a bit before I left for my 10 day trip, and I completely forgot that the school parking lot needs permits. God, I'm stupid. So my poor Benny-Bean got a ticket - $40. Eesh... I feel really bad so I'm going to pay for it and make it up to him... I'm hating this school's living situation more and more.
I also wish that maybe the break was delayed a little, by a week perhaps. I feel like the relationship's getting a bit bumpy, kind of uncertain, and leaving isn't helping the situation at all...
At least I'll get to go to the dentist...

Home

On Thursday night, I will be home. In a way, that's nice, I miss home. On another hand, I'll miss my Benny-bean. Ah well, it'll be ten days of relaxation and seeing old friends in any case.
Speaking of Benny-bean, I watched him play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for six hours yesterday. Isn't that nerdy? I am very amused at the idea, but still, that game is very very interesting.
Today I was walking to campus so as to pick up and drop off a few things. While I was walking down the driveway to the apartments, I realized that for a few seconds, no cars passed by. All that was there was me, the road, the sun, the grass and the sound of my own footsteps, and it reminded me of the favorite part of my day in high school, where I would be walking home with the sun out and a crisp breeze in my face and when I walked by the intersection, I'd always look up at that one old pine which I like so much that is half-dead and choked in kudzu vines. O nostalgia...

Equilibrium

Everyday this week, for some reason or other, I haven't been getting enough sleep. First, Sunday through Tuesday, I had a total of 3 hours of sleep because of the project. Tuesday night itself, I slept only seven hours because of morning errands that needed to be done. Slept only three hours on Wednesday night because of all the homework that I'd been neglecting in the wake of that tidal wave called Studio reviews. And then, Thursday night, I crashed and woke up eight hours later with work still left to do...woops. So I frantically worked all morning, managed to be the only archie in Japanese class, and was still very drained. I can't tell if they liked it or not. Spike referred to my project as having a "dumb language." Thanks very much... My eyebrows definitely quirked up when she said that, and Waz told me that it meant simple. If it meant simple, why'd she call it "dumb?" That has an extremely negative connotation. Still, Art redeemed them all by stopping them and telling everyone that this was exactly what everyone should be trying to achieve composition-wise and all the teachers sort of nodded. So that was nice.
Still, I was quite tired from lack of snoozing for a long time. I usually needed a good 15 hours in a row to be totally recovered from one of those. So after a seven hour sleep last night, I went back to sleep after talking to daddy online and now I feel great, and for the first time in what seems like forever, I feel awake.
O yes, and I'm in such a good mood now that I archived my entire portfolio onto CDs, which I've been putting off since the day I moved back into the apartment.

Off Campus?!

Last night, in a fit of despair that I would have to stay up for yet another hour or two in order to finish homework, I took a little break to see what was on misc market and lo and behold, a house! A really, really good one. $355 a month plus utilities, not even a block away from studio, the would be roomies are all people I at least vaguely know (One I actually worship from afar for her amazing dancing). Can you believe that? I find it very funny that my friends were running all over Oakland to find a place and voila, five minutes and I found a place. I hope we get the place, it'd be very convenient. Downside is that we'd have to start paying rent at the end of this month, which I guess is fine, it'll be like an extra storage area. My alternative would be to stay here and it's going to be $5930 for next year and I would have two strangers for roomies. Sooo, $500 a month to share a bedroom with two people? Or $400 a month for my own room which is just as close to studio?

I Miss That Thing Called...

O to sleep. I miss that thing called sleep. I've been working till the wee hours of the morning, complete with sunup lately because another final project is due. That's what that gorgeous bike's for. O, and so far the project look smashingly gorgeous. It's just so time consuming. And hard to work when sleepy...I sliced off the tip of my finger yesterday. Not really badly as in bleeding everywhere. No blood, I got a nice angle for cutting if I absolutely had to cut myself... Let's just say my nails will no longer have perfect borderlines on the cuticles...*sigh, and that was my best nail too... Ahem, anyway, I'm very sleepy now and must study for my Japanese test.
O and I really feel like chatting with people from home, but no one's ever online...And I haven't sent the library ladies an email in a long time. I believe I shall do that after all the hell is over...

Thursday, February 10, 2005

Et voila, five hours on Maya and it's gorgeous!
